Pekin, runner and crested ducks
Ducks
They brought lots of laughter and took away lots of snails.
Pekin ducks, runner ducks and crested runners brought lots of laughter to the estate and took away an awful lot of snails. Although we first got them for their usefulness, today we are glad we discovered what wonderful personalities these little feathered friends have.
First came Jackie and Daisy, two Pekin ducklings – yellow fluffballs who grew at almost the speed of light. They are diligent layers of snow-white eggs, but delight us even more with their waddle and loud quacking when they want attention.
They were joined by Lili the duck and Don the drake, both runners in natural colours. A year later we added 5 more colourful ducks, some of them crested. Not everything went to plan, though: the black duck turned out to be a gorgeous black-green-purple drake.
